Some words from Steve...

Hi,
Right after
Beverly and I got married our apartment
burned in the middle of the night. Actually
the apartment behind us burned and only the
roof of our place burned. We did not lose
anything to fire; we did lose stuff by water
and smoke damage. It stunk, but no one was
hurt and our stuff was just stuff, plus with
the insurance money we were able to buy our
first house in Katy. After a number of years
there, we upgraded a bit and bought a bigger
home still out in Katy. This second house
was empty when we bought it and needed a
little bit of work. We had already moved out
of our first home and we were living with my
mom and dad. Beverly and I would go out and
work on the house in evenings and on
weekends. We were installing French doors
and painting and getting new floors put in.
We worked hard to do as much as we could as
cheap as we could.
One Saturday
night I was out working on the house and it
got late. My father was still the minister
here at the church then, and much like Dr.
Simmons, got to the church really early on
Sunday mornings. So, he went to bed pretty
early on Saturday nights. I finished working
and realized that it was after midnight. So
I had a problem. I had been working hard and
even though it was in early December, it was
hot and I was dirty and sweaty. The problem
was that I needed a shower before I could go
to bed and the bathroom where I would have to
shower at my parent's house was right next to
their bedroom. Being the loving considerate
son that I am, I knew that I could not risk
taking a shower and waking Dad up in the
middle of the night.
Being
the resourceful fellow that I am, I quickly
came up with a plan...

Get the word out. Teach all these things. And
don't let anyone put you down because you're
young. Teach believers with your life: by
word, by demeanor, by love, by faith, by
integrity. Stay at your post reading
Scripture, giving counsel, teaching. And that
special gift of ministry you were given when
the leaders of the church laid hands on you
and prayed-keep that dusted off and in use.
Cultivate these things. Immerse
yourself in them. The people will all see
you mature right before their eyes! Keep a
firm grasp on both your character and your
teaching. Don't be diverted. Just keep at it.
Both you and those who hear you will
experience salvation.
- 1 Timothy 4:14-16 (The Message)

We hope you have enjoyed this parent update email.
Our goal is to keep you in the loop of things
happening up here at the church so you can
encourage your little darling to be here. We also
think that this is the best way to get important info
in your hands. Please let us know any comments you
have about this and what kind of things you would
like to see in the future. ALWAYS send us stuff that
you read and find out there about youth and
parenting. You are our greatest resource. You can
email us back at mdumcyouth@gmail.com. Have a
great week!
Sincerely,
