Scripture Reading
"Sir," the woman said, "you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his flocks and herds?"
Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
- John 4:11-14
Thought of the Day
Richard Blanchard was a United Methodist pastor who loved music and wrote the classic song, "Fill My Cup, Lord". The story about how this song came to him is pretty interesting. Reverend Blanchard was pastor of a church in Florida and was going to marry a young couple there. They had scheduled a pre-marriage counseling session and at the appointed time, the couple did not show up. Blanchard was angered at them being late and went to a nearby classroom to blow off some steam. There was a piano in there and he sat down and in about twenty minutes he had composed this great song. Here is the first verse and chorus.
Like the woman at the well I was seeking
For things that could not satisfy;
And then I heard my Savior speaking:
"Draw from my well that never shall run dry".
Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up, Lord!
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul.
Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more.
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole!
I love what Reverend Blanchard later wrote about that moment. "When I was not in the mood to be used of God, God was in a mood to use me." That is the great news today, you know. There are so many times that we are not in the mood for anything. We are mad, or sad, or lonely, or tired, or whatever. Thank goodness that we have a God who loves us and wants to use us and to fill our cup. Never ever forget this!
Prayer
Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up, Lord!
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul.
Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more.
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole! Amen.
