Scripture Reading
So, friends, take a firm stand, feet on the ground and head high. Keep a tight grip on what you were taught, whether in personal conversation or by our letter. May Jesus himself and God our Father, who reached out in love and surprised you with gifts of unending help and confidence, put a fresh heart in you, invigorate your work, enliven your speech.
- 2 Thessalonians 2:15 (The Message)
Thought of the Day
Last weekend the fam and I were in New York City to move my son, Parker where he is beginning law school. Ever since he was a little boy, this has been a dream of his. When he finished college he taught high school English for four years here in Houston. Even though the world is smaller nowadays with the internet and cell phones and sometimes cheap air fares, New York is still a long way from Houston. So you can imagine that it was a little hard to leave him after we moved him in over the weekend.
Now even though Parker is twenty six and beginning law school, you would know that it would be hard for me and his mother to leave him on Monday without a love letter to remind him of some things. I do not know what his mama wrote him in her card, but this is a little of what I wrote to Parker.
I reminded him how proud I was of him and that I knew that he would do amazing things up in New York. I reminded him how much we loved him and that our love would never waver. I reminded him what a blessing he was to me and so many people. Finally, I reminded him that he was not alone up there and that he would soon meet new friends and hopefully find a new church to be a part of. ( I just realized that I forgot to remind him to call his mama every so often.)
I decided to share this with you because I realized that my words to Parker are pretty important words. Important words that I have learned from my mother and father over the years. Dad has been a minister for over sixty years and mom has been there right along side him all that time. I learned these important words because they taught me that these words are God's words.
So if you want, imagine that you have just received a love letter from God. This is what I think it would say.
My child, I am most proud of you. I love you more than you can imagine and my love for you knows no end. You are a blessing to me and others. Remember that you are not alone, I am with you always. And don't forget to call home every so often.
Prayer
Lord, Your letters are the best. Thank you for caring about me. Amen.
