Scripture Reading
"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
- Isaiah 54:10
Thought of the Day
It is hard to believe that it has been eight years since we turned on our TV's on the morning of September 11, 2001 and saw the tragedy unfolding before our very eyes. This morning I was watching some replays of that terrible day and a flood of emotions came to me.
This is the thought that I wrote on September 13, 2001 after the attacks. I decided to send it to you because of the comforting words that I still find in it.
September 13, 2001 Thought
I'm not sure where or when I saved this quote. It has been in a notebook where I stick clippings of things that grab me. In light of the pain and suffering from the terrorism attack earlier this week, this quote helped me as I tried to understand and make sense of something that cannot be understood or make sense. This was written in 1993 by a priest in war torn Sarajevo.
"Jesus teaches us that human judgments are not the last judgments, that human justice is not the last justice, and that the power that human exercise over one another is not the final power. "
Today we need to remember these words along with the words of the prophet Isaiah that remind us that we have a God who loves us with unfailing love, who can give us His peace, and who has compassion for each of us. Remember that as we cry in times like this, God cries with us. Remember that at times like this we must turn to He who gives us hope. Jesus the Christ.
Prayer
Oh Precious Lord, Be with those who need your love the most right now. Amen.
